New Ruralities Student Design Competition for rural sites starting December 20th with deadline 1st April 2025

13.12.2024, NeRu

Dear students,
you are all invited to join the NERU COMPETITION in the frame of New Ruralities project, with six universities involved: ULB (Brussels), POLITO (Torino), UDC (La Coruña), UMinho (Guimarães), UACEG (Sofia) and ETH (Zürich).

The NERU (New Ruralities) Design Competition encourages students and recent graduates to reimagine rural living within fragile European landscapes. Supported by Erasmus+, the competition spotlights rural areas evolving under pressures of urban interconnectivity, population aging, and economic change.

Participants - single or in groups up to 5 members, from architecture or other disciplines, from all over Europe - will propose design interventions up to three distinct regions: the flatlands of Flanders (Belgium), Ave valley (Portugal) and Alps (Italy).

The proposals should reflect a balance between human and ecological needs, respecting each site’s unique context.

The competition seeks transformative ideas that reframe rural-urban ties, reflecting on hybrid typologies for living and producing, creating a lasting vision of sustainable rural futures across Europe.

Final deadline: 1st APRIL 2025!!!
