This subject allows students to be acquainted with the regulations for and the contemporary systems of the anti-corrosion (AC) and the fire-resistant (FR) protection of buildings and structures. Composite Steel and Concrete Structures
In Bulgaria there is no design code for this contemporary and widely spread type of structures. Therefore, the course is based entirely on the European Code pr EN 1994-1-1. 2003 and the codes for steel and reinforced concrete and comprises all the issues contained therein. After finishing the course students acquire skills to design composite steel and concrete slabs, beams and columns for buildings in limit and operational states.

Fire Resistance of Steel and Timber Structures

Production of Steel Structures
The subject covers the main issues of the fabrication technology for steel structures. The fabrication shop operations with sheet- and sectional steel, such as material handling, template making, laying out, punching and drilling, fitting, welding, bolting, cleaning and painting are considered along with the respective quality control procedures. Special attention is paid to the major design and detailing requirements leading to fabrication of cost-efficient steel structures.
