The subject is related to soils as a component of environment, their basic characteristics and functions. The essence and aims of the sustainable land use are considered as a component of the sustainable land management, sustainable development, specific features of agro-eco-systems and ecological problems aimed to restrict the harmful effect of the intensive agriculture, the accent being put on the cumulative impact on the water resources. Contemporary methods for their limitation are being discussed as well.
