The lecture course is divided in two main parts: 1. History of urban planning – the traditional chronological order: slave system, feudal system, capitalism, is used. Urban planning in Bulgaria is presented in a separate section. 2. Contemporary urban planning – characterization of urban settlements and studying their basic elements. Analysis of the main problems in urban design: determination of the site location for designing a settlement, general plan structure and functional zoning. Planning of central, residential and industrial zones, zones for recreation, communications and transport, engineering networks, main types of plans and design materials for settlement planning.
