All programmes of the Faculty of Hydrotechnics have been accredited by the European Association of Engineers (FEANI) and graduates can obtain the degree “Euro-engineer”. 

The length of study in Irrigation and Drainage Engineering is 10 semesters, the last one being used for development and presentation of a diploma project.

Students of Irrigation and Drainage Engineering have 49–50 courses with a total of 4300 academic hours and participate also in practices and internships for a total of over 400 hours. 

Training is provided in classes (lectures and seminars), laboratory exercises, practical and field training and pre-diploma field training in design companies and organisations.
Instruction is in Bulgarian.

Academic calendar
The exact academic calendar is determined each year by the Academic Council of the University.

The academic year consists of two semesters, each one of 15 weeks: autumn semester (from October to January) and spring semester (from February to June).
One regular and one supplementary examination session as well as project presentations follow the autumn semester.
The summer semester has one regular examination session, project defences, followed by field practices outside the University (in June and July).
The annual supplementary examination session is in September.
