Elliptical Geodesy is an important specialist subject of the Geodesy programme. It covers the following topics: geometry of the flattened rotational ellipsoid, suitable coordinate systems related to ellipsoid and on the surface of the ellipsoid, depiction of the ellipsoid or parts of it on a sphere and plane (projection or image plane) in order to obtain and use suitable geodetic projections, important geodetic problems (solved on the ellipsoid, in space or in the projection plane), thereby fixing the relative positions of points on the ellipsoid, in space and on the projection plane, as well as methods of transmission from one coordinate system to another.
