History of Bulgarian architecture for Erasmus students

History of Bulgarian architecture for Erasmus students

The course is intended for international students in the Erasmus+ program. It traces the development of architecture in Bulgarian lands from the earliest prehistoric manifestations of architecturally conceived activity to the mid-twentieth century. For each historical period, both the architectural materiality itself and the context in which it was created are analyzed. The course seeks to determine the place of local architectural phenomena within the global architecture —whether they are the result of regional practices or part of broader styles and movements. It evaluates the mutual influences between Bulgarian architecture and global cultural and architectural phenomena with which it comes into contact. Students are prepared to distinguish the value aspects associated with Bulgarian architectural heritage.
