Lightweight Block Masonry Construction of Buildings

A promising direction in the housing development in Bulgaria is the construction of buildings with the help of lightweight blocks (concrete and ceramic). This technology has a number of advantages: the use of conventional formwork is avoided; no heavy and expensive machinery is required; no highly qualified labour force is needed, etc. Materials and basic technological requirements for lightweight block production are considered as well as the testing procedures of masonry blocks and structures and the specific features of the design and execution of buildings.
