History of Ancient and Medieval Architecture

History of Ancient and Medieval Architecture

The discipline presents architecture as a creative and constructive human activity that develops.

Its material expressions are analyzed, tracing their development and realization in the context of symbolism, stylistic identity, planning and construction features in the time range from Antiquity to the end of the Middle Ages. The achievements of architecture in the period are also considered in the context of examples of contemporary architecture, using as archetypes and/or interpretative objects from the architectural phenomena studied in the subject. "History of ancient and medieval architecture" is one of the basic disciplines in the Faculty of Architecture. Its characteristic is providing the opportunity to achieve unity between the extensive theoretical knowledge acquired in the lecture course and the pursuit of its practical application in the exercises: as a presentation and analysis of an architectural problem and, as a realization of a practical task on a given topic.
