History of Bulgarian Architecture

History of Bulgarian Architecture

The course is aimed at students in Architecture. It traces the development of architecture in the Bulgarian lands from the earliest prehistoric manifestations of architecturally meaningful activity to the mid-twentieth century.

For each historical period, both the architectural materiality itself and the context in which it was created are analyzed. The place of architectural phenomena in the global architectural environment is sought - whether they are a manifestation of local original practice or are part of more widespread styles and trends. The mutual influences between the Bulgarian architecture and the contacted world cultural and architectural phenomena are assessed. Students prepare to identify the valuаble architectural moments related to the Bulgarian architectural heritage.
